About AT&T

AT&T is a major national internet provider offering the fastest speeds in the country on a residential fiber connection—topping out at 2,000 and 5,000 Mbps. AT&T’s lower-tier fiber plans are also a great deal; while technically slower, the 300 Mbps plan is still excellent and comes at a great price.

The provider also has DSL and fixed wireless service, both of which are good if you live in a small town or rural area with relatively few internet options.

Why choose AT&T?

You should choose AT&T if you can get its fiber service in your area. AT&T’s Fiber Internet 300 and Fiber Internet 500 plans are both awesome packages with lots of extra perks, including unlimited data and no annual contracts. AT&T regularly runs limited-time offer deals for new customers, so make sure to check if you can get a VISA rewards card when you sign up.

AT&T used to offer bundle packages with DIRECTV, but those deals are no longer available. You can still combine AT&T internet with DIRECTV service now, but they’re technically not bundle offers. You have to order the two separately, just like you would with any other service, and there are no perks or discounts like what usually come with bundle packages.

Pros:

  • Great combination of affordable price and fast speeds on lower-tier fiber plans
  • No annual contracts on any plans
  • Record-breaking 5,000 Mbps speeds

Cons:

  • High $55/mo. price for DSL plan that costs the same as faster fiber
  • Strict 350 GB data cap on fixed wireless plan
  • Unnecessarily fast speeds on the most expensive fiber plans

How does AT&T compare to other providers?

AT&T is about equal with its main fiber competitors, Google Fiber and CenturyLink. The latter both have cheaper gigabit plans, but AT&T offers faster speeds than either. As for its cable-internet rivals, AT&T’s fiber plans are definitely the better deal—its gigabit plan costs as much as $20 less per month compared to Cox or Spectrum and you get symmetrical upload and download speeds too. Cable is better than AT&T’s DSL plan, though, because you can get much faster speeds and more reliable service for an equal or lower price.

FAQ

What is the cheapest AT&T internet plan?

The cheapest AT&T internet plan is Fiber Internet 300 for $55 a month. AT&T’s DSL plans—which have speeds up to 100 Mbps—also cost $55 per month.

Does AT&T have unlimited data?

All of AT&T’s fiber plans with speeds of at least 100 Mbps come with unlimited data. You can stream, game, and Zoom all you want every month without worrying about overage charges or throttled speeds.

AT&T’s DSL plans with speeds of up to 75 Mbps come with a data cap of 1 TB per month, while AT&T’s Fixed Wireless Internet plan has a 350 GB monthly cap. If you exceed your cap, the provider tacks on an overage fee of $10 for every extra 50 GB you use.

How much is AT&T installation?

Professional installation for AT&T costs a one-time fee of $49. But in many cases, you can opt for self-installation, which is free.

Can you bundle AT&T internet with DIRECTV?

AT&T and DIRECTV no longer offer internet and TV bundles. You can still order DIRECTV to go with your AT&T internet service, but you don’t get any bundle discounts or deals with it.
