Affordable Connectivity Program Centurylink
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a federal program that provides a monthly discount to qualifying households for internet service. If you qualify for Lifeline, you automatically qualify for ACP, but you’ll still need to complete the CenturyLink application to get the discount on your internet account.
Lifeline is a federal program that lowers the monthly cost of phone or qualifying internet service. You can only use Lifeline for either phone or internet service, but not both. Lifeline discounts are available to participants of both state and federally recognized aid programs.
CenturyLink’s fiber internet plan beats out most cable providers like Cox, Spectrum, and Xfinity because it gives you faster speeds at a cheaper price. It also comes with unlimited data and no annual contract, which you don’t always get from a cable internet provider. However, CenturyLink’s DSL deal doesn’t quite compare to Cox and Xfinity’s budget plans, which cost less (at least in the first 12 months) and come with faster speeds.
AT&T is CenturyLink’s main fiber competitor. It has a wider range of fiber plans that all come at decent prices. But CenturyLink’s gigabit plan is $15 cheaper per month than AT&T’s, so we like CenturyLink more (although both are solid).
